Buying from Eurospares after Brexit
This is a quick overview of what you need to know in relation to Brexit and buying from Eurospares after 1st January 2021.
Countries outside the EU
Just carry on as usual, nothing has materially changed!
The UK has already agreed many bilateral trade agreements with a lot of non-EU countries meaning that (depending on where you are) you could be eligible for preferential import rates.
A list of countries and the agreements can be found here and the good news is that you don't have to do anything extra to get them!
The Eurospares staff will ensure that the correct paperwork and declarations are provided so that if there is a preferential rate available, you will get it.
Countries within the EU
Good news! UK VAT at 20% will no longer be applied to your purchase and parts which originate in the UK / EU (99% of parts we supply) can claim preferential rates of duty at 0% meaning there is no import duty to pay either!
The only additional charges you’ll pay is your country’s VAT (and potentially a small handling fee by the courier depending on who they are - further details are below).
Please don’t worry though, this is very simple and all handled by the courier delivering your goods and as before, EU business with a valid VAT number will be able to claim this back.
Other than the VAT (and the potential courier handling fee) there should be no other taxes to pay. Import duty is covered by the preferential rate at 0% so this will not be charged.
If you have any further questions then please don't hesitate to contact our offices.
Additional Courier Charges
DHL and FedEx may charge a small advancement fee for paying the import VAT upfront on your behalf. This can be avoided though if you you're a business and we have your VAT number or if you're a private individual and you have (or set up) a credit card account with the courier.
This will allow the VAT on your import to be postponed in the case you have a VAT number or charged directly to your credit card so that the courier doesn't have to pay it on your behalf (which they charge the surcharge for).
Each country is different but the average charge is circa €15 or 2.5% of the value of the VAT they are paying on your behalf (whichever is greater).
Therefore, to avoid this charge, we would suggest that when you receive notification that your goods have been despatched, you contact the courier and set up a credit card account so that you can pay the VAT directly.
You only need to do this once and it will avoid additional fees charged by the courier and also speed up the delivery process.
If you need any further details then please get in contact with you are we are more than happy to help.
