The 997 received a mid-cycle refresh in 2008 for the 2009 model year. Known as either the 997 Gen 2, or the 997.2, every model of the previous 997.1 received tweaks and updates which enhanced performance and desirability.
Notable changes to all models were a new engine with direct fuel injection, updated suspension, a new front bumper featuring larger air intakes, headlights with stylish and practical LED daytime running lights, a revised rear bumper with new LED rear lights, larger exterior mirrors, a redesigned Porsche Sports Exhaust (PSE) and Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system, plus the new PDK transmission.
The new exterior on the 997.2 looked tremendous and was well-received by critics and the Porsche community. With Bi-Xenon lights as standard, the modern LED rear light units, and dual exhaust pipes, the updated Porsche was a head turner and had the performance figures to match.
The base Carrera could output 340 hp from its 3.6 litre flat-6 and managed 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds. The top-of-the-range GT2 RS was tuned to provide a staggering 612 bhp from its 3.6 litre twin-turbocharged engine and could do 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds.
Porsche did well with the 997 and this paved the way for its successor - the bigger and badder 991, however, the 997.2 remains a popular choice in the current market among Porsche enthusiasts and collectors.
