A relay is an electrically operated switch that opens and closes a circuit when a current is applied to it. Relays are used to control high-current devices such as headlights, fuel pumps, and starter motors. Relays can fail if they have been exposed to moisture, or if there is a short circuit in the circuit they are controlling. If you notice any electrical failures or substandard electrical performance it is important to have your electrical system diagnosed as a poor relay may be the culprit. They are relatively inexpensive and easy to replace, but it is important to make sure that the correct relay is used for the specific application.
