Lamborghini Huracán EVO: The Supercar Perfected
The EVO was a new variant of the Huracán which was released in 2019 with a UK launch price of around £200,000. Available as either a coupe or as a spyder, it was the latest evolved model of the awe-inspiring Huracán and was marketed to go head-to-head with other similar supercars such as the McLaren 720S and the Ferrari 488 GTB.
Sharing some of the technology, and the same engine as the Huracán Performante, Lamborghini claimed that the EVO was taking the extraordinary abilities of the Performante to combine state-of-the-art vehicle dynamic control which would amplify the everyday driving experience Huracán owners had come to expect.
The 5.2 litre V10 engine produces 630 hp giving the Huracán EVO amazing acceleration performance. It has a top speed of over 200 mph and reaches 0 to 60 mph in under 3 seconds.
Handling was improved thanks to the updated advanced traction control system combined with the enhanced all-wheel drive (AWD) and torque vectoring - which allows traction to be directed to a single wheel as required.
Another thing which made the Huracán EVO model so special was that the EVO was the first Huracán to inherit all-wheel steering as standard from its big sisters in the V12 family - the Aventador S, SVJ and Sian.
At low speeds, all-wheel steering increases the handling of the car by reducing the virtual wheelbase to 220 mm. At high speed, it increases the stability of the vehicle when cornering.
In 2020 two rear-wheel drive (RWD) versions, (coupe and spyder), were introduced to the market replacing the LP 580-2.
The RWD models had a unique feature which is the “P-TCS” (Performance Traction Control System). By all accounts this this was added purely for sheer driving fun!
The P-TCS is calibrated specifically for the rear-wheel drive Huracán EVO, delivering torque even during the phase where the car is realigning following drifting or side slipping.
A normal traction control system delivers a sharp decoupling - it waits for the car to become completely stable before delivering torque again, whereas the P-TCS on the EVO RWD delivers torque in advance, avoiding a harsh torque cut to ensure better traction when exiting a corner.
The P-TCS intervention is calibrated according to the EVO RWD’s driving modes: STRADA, SPORT and CORSA all of which are controlled via the steering wheel’s “ANIMA” button (Adaptive Network Intelligent Management), which translates to “soul” in Italian.
