The Aston Martin DBS is one of the most recognised models in Aston Martin’s history and cements itself as one of the brand's most desirable cars with its powerful engine, innovative chassis and sophisticated silhouette. The three generations of Aston Martin DBS span over 50 years and became Aston Martin's flagship car from 2007-2012 and then again from 2018 onwards.
Replacing the Vanquish, the Aston Martin DBS is more than just an Aston Martin with its stronger, broader and more muscular exterior design which not only excites Aston Martin enthusiasts but delivers the performance of one of the most powerful Aston Martin Grand Tourers ever. To make the DBS that more unique, three special colours were introduced at launch - Lightning Silver, Casino Royale and Storm Black although these are now available as additional extras on other cars in the range.
The Aston Martin DBS is powered by a finely tuned 6.0 litre V12 engine which is accompanied by a close-ratio 6-speed transmission, producing a whopping 510 bhp which allows a top speed of 191 mph! Along with its sensational power, the adaptive suspension cleverly tunes itself to improve the driving experience on different road conditions, and the lightweight aluminium chassis and carbon-ceramic brakes make the Aston Martin DBS a fine machine to drive.
The DBS was formed and constructed with high performance, handling ability and low kerb weight in mind. The same VH (Vertical Horizontal) structure, first introduced in the DB9, was used in the DBS to provide strength and rigidity for the whole car and the addition of carbon fiber splitters on the front wing increased handling and responsiveness.
The overall weight was reduced significantly with vented carbon ceramic brakes and carbon fiber composite body panels including the front wings and bonnet which saves 30kg in weight over the aluminium equivalent. Specific options for Kevlar and carbon fiber lightweight seats can provide a further 20kg in weight reduction.
In 2009, the convertible version of the DBS was unveiled. The DBS Volante, as it was known, included a motorized fabric retractable roof which can fold in just 14 seconds and can operate at speeds of up to 30 mph. Other changes included a new wheel design and an option for a 2+2 seating configuration which was made available for both the coupé and the Volante.
