The Maserati MC20 is a mid-engined sports car that was unveiled in September 2020 as a spiritual successor to the Maserati MC12 supercar and is powered by the new Nettuno engine.
The MC20 is a high-performance car that is designed to deliver an exhilarating driving experience. It is powered by a 3.0 litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine that produces 621 hp and 538 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds and with a top speed of 202 mph.
Made from a carbon fiber monocoque chassis and bodywork, the MC20 is lightweight, weighing just 2,754 pounds and also features a number of active aerodynamics, including a rear wing that can deploy automatically to increase downforce. The engine was developed in-house by Maserati and codenamed Nettuno, It is based on the same architecture as the engine that powers the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio and is set to represent the bright future of the Maserati brand.
There are four specific driving modes: Wet, GT, Sport and Corsa. Each mode alters engine boost, pedal sensitivity, exhaust note, transmission shifting, suspension damping, and traction control (ESC). The MC20's driving modes can be selected using a rotary knob on the centre console. The driver can also adjust the settings for each mode individually.
Wet mode is designed for driving in wet or slippery conditions. It reduces engine power and torque, and it softens the suspension to improve handling and stability. GT mode is the default mode for everyday driving and provides a balance of performance and comfort. Sport mode sharpens the car's responses for more engaging driving whilst increasing engine power and torque with a stiffened suspension. Corsa mode is the most extreme mode and is designed for track driving. It maximizes engine power and torque plus stiffens the suspension to the maximum. It also disables traction control.
The exterior is striking, available in 6 all-new colours sitting on 20 inch birdcage wheels everything from the pronounced front splitter to the aggressive rear diffuser is head-turning and screams wow factor. The interior shows off pure racing-inspired styling and a technologically advanced connected infotainment system with voice control. Plus it is stated that the MC20 is the first Maserati to feature the optional Sonus faber High-Premium Audio System.
In 2022, the trident-branded marque unveiled the MC20 Cielo, a drop-top variant of the MC20 halo sports car.
